Our Mission
Philadelphia Bible Fellowship exists to cultivate Biblical Disciples who worship God in spirit and truth, edify the Body of Christ, and share His love and their lives with the world.
Our Vision
In accordance with our mission and values, we envision a multi-ethnic, intergenerational fellowship of godly individuals and families. PBF will be a place where men, women and children are compelled to place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ, equipped to think and act biblically, learn to value personal and corporate worship, commit to glorifying God in their homes, neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces and actively use their spiritual gifts, talents, and resources to advance the kingdom of God.
Our Statement of Beliefs
The following is the doctrinal declaration of Philadelphia Bible Fellowship.
We embrace the words of Augustine of Hippo:
“In Essentials, there must be unity.”
There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to one hope when you were called--one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Ephesians 4:4-6
“In non-essentials, liberty.”
Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else's servant…So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God…So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Romans 14:1-4, 12, 22
“But in all things, charity.”
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. I Corinthians 13:2
The following are the essential doctrines we believe:
We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired and infallible Word of God. By this, we mean that the Holy Spirit guided each author in the author’s original writing, so that each syllable, word and phrase is presented exactly in the manner inspired by God. We believe that the result is a collection of sixty-six books that has been miraculously preserved in every essential way by the Holy Spirit and is the final authority of faith, truth and practice.
We believe in the existence of One Living and True God who exists eternally in Three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each Person is co-existent, co-equal, and sovereign. We believe that God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent and has revealed Himself to be perfect in love, righteous in all His ways, and Creator and Sustainer of all things.
We believe that God the Father is an equal Person of the Godhead, and He is revealed to be the God of Strength, Salvation and Sovereignty. While the triune nature of God is revealed harmoniously throughout the Scriptures, the Bible gives a progressive revelation of the three Persons of the Godhead. By this, we mean God the Father is revealed primarily in the Old Testament, God the Son is revealed in the Gospels, and God the Holy Spirit is revealed in the remainder of the New Testament Writings. The Old Testament reveals God the Father by three primary names or titles: Elohim, Jahve, and Adonai. The New Testament reveals God the Father as the Father of Israel, the Father of Jesus Christ, and the Father of all Christians.
We believe that Jesus Christ is an equal Person of the Godhead and exists eternally as God’s Son. He allowed Himself to be begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is truly God and truly human. We believe that He lived a sinless life, and His death by crucifixion was sufficient payment for the sins of humanity. We believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ, His ascension into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, and His present avocation as High Priest and Head of the Christian Church.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is an equal Person of the Godhead. We believe that He convicts humanity of sin, confesses Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and persuades humanity to repent and seek salvation of sin. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells each believer at the moment of salvation, teaches, convicts, empowers, comforts, helps, and enables each believer to grow in spiritual maturity through obedience to God and His Word.
We believe that God created a host of angels who are by nature different from God and from the human being. Some of these angels left their first estates by rebelling against God and followed an angel of light, now called Satan. This act of disobedience ushered into the universe the very presence of evil.
We believe that God created the human being in His image and likeness. We believe that the first man and woman rebelled against God and thereby incurred physical death and spiritual separation from God. Therefore, we believe that because of the rebellion of the first man and woman that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, which is revealed in thought, word and action, and are incapable of producing anything of their own resources that is acceptable to God. We believe that all human beings upon reaching the age of accountability are responsible for searching and accepting the finished work of Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection as the only acceptable way to obtain forgiveness of sins.
We believe that human beings are justified by grace through faith alone and not of works on the basis of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. We believe that anyone who accepts and trust the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord is born again of the spirit by the Holy Spirit and thereby has the right to become a child of God.
We believe in the priesthood of every believer. By this, we mean that, in Christ, every believer has full and personal access to the presence of God and does not need an advocate to reach or please God, and every believer is personally responsible to testify to the saving power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through his or her life, love and lips.
We believe that it is the obligation of each believer to live a life separated and consecrated to God. By this, we mean that each believer is personally responsible for his or her continuing dependence upon the enabling power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. We believe that each believer is baptized with the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion, and each believer after conversion is dependent upon the ongoing filling of the Holy Spirit in order to experience deliverance from sin and empowerment for Christian service.
We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ originated at Pentecost according to Acts chapter two and is comprised solely of believers. We believe that the mission of the church will be accomplished as believers fulfill their mandate from Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations. By this, we mean that it is the duty of all believers to declare the saving power of Jesus Christ to all people, and we believe that it is the duty of all believers to disciple converts until they reach full maturity in Christ.
We believe in the imminent return of Jesus Christ to the earth. He will raise the dead, judge the world, establish His glorious Kingdom and reign eternally with every believer. This is the hope of every believer and is the great encouragement for Christian living and ministry.
We believe in the conscious bodily resurrection of the saved and the unsaved. We believe that the just will live eternally in the presence of God’s blessings, and the unjust will live eternally in the presence of God’s judgment.
